From Hotel de Petersbourg to St. Petersbourg hotel.
Throughout its long history, the Hotel de Petersbourg has seen many prestigious faces pass through its doors. Established in 1850 as the Hotel de Petersbourg, this hotel has a grand reputation and important place in the history of Tallinn. Even in the early thirteenth century, the owners of the plot of land where the building now stands, were some of the town’s most famous merchants and burgermeisters. However, the real history starts in the fifteenth century when a wealthy Russian merchant named Proklov who had extensive holdings in the area, purchased the property and appointed the famous local architect August Gabler to construct his home. Proklov was accustomed to the very best, and had Gabler construct one of the grandest homes in Tallinn where he entertained in a lavish style.

Times have changed and the wealthy Russian and German merchants of the past have gone, but the St Petersbourg Hotel is still one of the city’s most majestic landmarks. It has endured and celebrated the momentous changes in the historic development of the region and Tallinn. Ever since 1921 when it catered to the first Russian Ambassador to Estonia, it has been home to important politicians and business leaders helping to shape the future. These days we welcome a new breed of local businessmen, diplomats and travelers who enjoy the elegance and comforts of the Hotel St Petersbourg.
